Laura Alaniz has practiced law in Texas since 1996. Laura is Board Certified in Labor and Employment Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and heads the firm’s Employment Section. Less than 1% of Texas attorneys are designated as Board Certified experts in Labor and Employment Law and less than 35% of those so designated are women.
She is licensed to appear before all State and Federal Courts within the State of Texas. Laura earned her Bachelor of Science undergraduate degree with high honors from The University of Texas at Austin in 1993. Laura then attended Baylor Law School, where she earned her Juris Doctor degree in 1996. Laura has received recognition from her fellow members of the Bar who have caused her name to be placed on Texas Monthly's Texas Attorneys Rising Star list for 2008 and 2009. Prior to joining Roberts Markel in 2002 she was a Prosecutor for McLennan County, Texas.
Laura’s practice offers clients not only guidance as to their transactional employment needs such as drafting personnel policies and employment agreements but has successfully defended clients in employment cases. Her litigation experience provides a unique perspective in analyzing client’s practices to reduce risk of claims. She also advises clients on compliance issues relating to employment-related laws.
Our employment section represents employers in all types of employment disputes including suits for wrongful termination, retaliation, harassment and discrimination, wage and hour disputes, disability accommodation, and has counseled clients regarding leaves of absence, layoffs, unemployment compensation, employment handbooks and policies, and employee and management training. In addition, she has extensive experience in drafting employment contracts, non-disclosure agreements, and anti-competition-hiring-solicitation agreements, and in litigating claims of tortious interference, defamation, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
Our employment section works to advise our clients regarding compliance with employment-related laws and the prevention of claims, as well as handling employment-related claims before local, state and federal administrative agencies and courts.
